Careers in Sustainability

SIB Laurier will be bringing in various individuals with a professional background in business and sustainability to share about their experiences in the workplace in a panel style format. Students will be able to gain an understanding of the different facets of sustainability in the workplace and the steps to take in order to enter and be successful in the field. Following the panel, there will be a Q&A networking session with these business leaders where students can ask questions, participate in activities, and build connections in an engaged atmosphere.

Sustainability in the Supply Chain

For this partnered event, SIB Laurier and Laurier Supply Chain Association (LSCA) will be bringing in professionals in supply chain management and/or sustainable supply chain management for an intriguing panel discussion. The discussion will entail topics such as the complexities of creating an authentically sustainable supply chain, how the recent social shift towards sustainability has impacted the way supply chains are managed and operated, as well as recent innovations in the field. Students will have the opportunity to engage in a Q&A session after the panel to further deepen their knowledge on sustainability in the supply chain and to build connections with various business professionals.

SIB 2021 Case Competition

This event will involve teams of students banding together and competing to answer a question/create a business solution for a sustainability-related topic. Beginning with a kick-off call to announce the event sponsor and topic/challenge focus, student teams will then have 2-3 days to come up with a solution. During this time, teams will have the opportunity to present their idea to SIB executive team members to gain feedback and further improve their presentation skills. The main event will consist of student teams presenting their ideas to a panel of judges in order to determine a winner who will be announced at the end of the event and rewarded with a prize.


This a networking event where professionals will take part in a paneled discussion exploring what the impact investing industry as a whole currently entails and what direction this rapidly growing industry is moving towards. Students are encouraged to engage in a Q&A period that will transition into a networking social where students can create connections with business professionals.

This was a networking event where students could connect virtually with industry professionals to learn about the many exciting ways they can get experience and build their resume.

This was a pitch competition open to all students willing to participate that will ask entrants to come up with and pitch a solution to a real sustainable problem on the Laurier campus.

Guest speakers from the Ontario Ministry of Environment and the Laurier Sustainability Office addressed on designated topics within sustainability in business to bring students into an  informative and diverse discussion.

Environmental consulting is often a form of compliance consulting, in which the consultant ensures that the client maintains an appropriate measure of compliance with environmental regulations.

SIB Laurier supported the initiative by encouraging students to donate clothes, and delivering the items to H&M, where they will be re-worn, reused or recycled.

Second-year BBA students worked in teams to come up with an innovative solution to IKEA’s question, “How can IKEA Canada create the most value through contributing to the development of the circular economy?”

SIB Laurier brought in past alumni who have pursued a career focussed on sustainability in business to come in and share their experiences.

This case competition with Stantec allowed the Lazaridis community to gain hands-on experience solving real sustainable issues.

Tom Rand is a Canadian climate change expert, clean-technology venture capitalist, entrepreneur, author, and talented speaker. At our flagship event, he educated our students for a more promising future of tackling our world’s climate problem.

This hackathon-style event with Top Drawer Creative explored how to become a leader of our environment within advertising.

This speaker event with TD & Sarona explored how to become a leader of our environment while you’re investing!
